Doug Liman Has Been Hired To Direct The SPLINTER CELL Movie

Way back in 2012 that actor Tom Hardy had been tapped to play "Sam Fisher" in an adaptation of the hit video game franchise Splinter Cell, but since then, things have been pretty quiet. Well that's about to change as word is Doug Liman has been hired to direct the adaptation with plans to begin filming this August for a 2015 release.


Liman is no stranger to action films having directed the first Bourne movie as well as Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Jumper and this summer's Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise.

For those uninitiated with the world of Splinter Cell, Sam Fisher is a seasoned covert operative in a fictional top-secret branch of the NSA called Third Echelon. He uses his skills as a former Navy Seal to carry out black-op missions utilizing high tech weapons and gadgets. First released in 2002, the series has spawned 6 games and sold over 23 million copies worldwide.
